Hello,
This may be of interest to those interested in anthropology and
evolution. Niles Eldredge will be doing two presentations on evolution
at Burpee Museum of Natural History on Saturday, Feb. 24.
The first will focus on his studies of trilobites, and the influence of
this research on his work with Stephen J. Gould regarding the idea of
"punctuated equilibria". This is at 11:00 am.
The second talk will focus on fossil discoveries like Lucy, with
emphasis on the topics of his latest book ("The Triumph of Evolution and
the Failure of Creationism"). This is at 5:00 pm.
Both talks are only $5 each for adults ($3 for teens), and reservations
can be placed at (815) 965-3433. Museum admission is $4 for adults and
$3 for those under 18 - but is not required for those who wish to attend
talks only.
This is part of our annual paleontology festival. This year the
festival features John Horner, Don Lessem, Peter Larson, Karen Chin,
Dennis Kolata, Gabrielle Lyon, Chris Ott and Lisa Buckley. A complete
schedule is available by mail or email upon request.
