Anthropology Club Minutes for November 2, 2004

Thank you to all who participated in this years fall book sale. This is of key importance to the club because it allows us to give out academic, field school, and conference stipends and helps us sponsor our campus events. (Note: Mention Scholarships available to inform new members).

  • Inventory of club items to sell? (Need to order more lapel pins)
  • We hardly sold any of the club logo tee-shirts. (Recommendation to give them to active members to wear them around campus)

3. “Using the Past and Shaping the Future”

  • At UIC November 18 th and 19 th
  • From Mucci’s Newsletter: “I would like to share with you information on an upcoming conference that has been organized by the Hull-House Museum, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and the Center for Cultural Understanding and Change of The Field Museum. The 'Using the Past to Shape the Future" conference will focus on how museums/cultural centers around the world are addressing civic issues and it will take place at UIC on November 18 and 19, 2004.  For more information and registration see the website below.   • Field Museum October 15 though January.

B. Upcoming Events: December

1. “Unveiling Machu Picchu” lecture given by Brian Bower.

  • Friday December 3 rd at the Field Museum at 2:00pm
  • We may be able to get a tour but we will probably need around 15 people

II. Possible Speakers for the Spring Semester.

  • We should start contacting them now to get their availability

III. Club Purchases

  • NASA guide to Anthropology Clubs

1. Orderded October 30 th by mail

      • Shipped 4 th class ground
      • Will receive within 4-6 weeks
      • Cost: $5.00

2.Our club URL ( http://www.iun.edu/~anthronc/) is now registered with NASA

  • Sandy ’s Gifts and Toys

3. At the last club meeting, October 20 th, we voted to order sculpting kit for the Neanderthal Man for the club.

  • Sandy was contacted and these will not be in until the middle of November.
  • Price will be roughly $20 and they can be picked up from her store location in Hobart.
  • She will contact Torie when they are in.

 

IV. Miscellaneous

  • Environmental Awareness Week (April 20-27)

1. “Some activites include nature walks, passing out info, and video showings… We would welcome the Anthro Club to join us in planning activites and to havd out information with us.” (Author unknown)

  • If yes we need volunteers to form a committee and get with the Environmental Action Committee.
