Anthropology Club Minutes for September 17, 2004

I. “Get a Student Life Week”

A. Table set up on the 15th

1. Book Marks were handed out to students
2. Three people signed up on the email list to get the news letter and be entered into a drawing to win an anth tote bag

  • Need to randomly draw a winner

II. Movie Night Confirmed (Friday October 8 th)

  • Whale Rider was purchased for the event
    • Where should we hold the event?
      • Last time Hawthorne was locked and people could not get in
      • Women’s Center was a bit crammed
      • Proposal to show movie in Lib room 105

III. Ideas for Possible Club Outings

A. Equinox Ceremony at Bittersweet (September 18-19)

1. Activities include a bonfire, drumming, camping, dancing, bringing a dish is encouraged

B.“Feast of the Hunters Moon” (October 2-3)

1. Located in Fort Ouiatenon Historic Park near West Lafayette

C. Wind, Rain, and Fire Benefit Pow Wow (October 16-17)

1. Possible Caravan to Winamac, IN on either the 16 th or 17 th of October

2. It is roughly 73.47 miles from Gary

D. Need committee to look into up coming events in the AAA, CSAS, BARFA, Society for Applied Anthropology, SAS, Ethno History, and the Indiana Academy of Social Sciences

1. So far have gotten dates and locations for AAA, and Society for Applied Anthropology, and CAPA
2. Dates for other societies listed above could not be located online
3. Send gathered info to department secretary

IV.Calendar

A. Need to make and hand out monthly calendar sheets at meetings with upcoming events listed and a section on the bottom that has a blank at the bottom to right out a question for the vessel. Upcoming vessel questions can also be printed on the bottom of the calendar.

2. Also Ideas to print out calendar sheet to post on the Anth bulletin board in Hawthorne Hall along with multi cultural “Hellos”

V. Academic Achievement Awards

A. Idea to eventually title the scholarship(s) as an academic achievement award in honor of Dr. Johnson, Tina, and Nancy

1. Possibly give them out at Honors Tea in April

2. Will prepare further info to present to club

3. This year’s winner of the Clark Johnson Memorial IUN Anthropology Scholarship was given the semester’s award
