Anthropology Club Minutes for March 4, 2004

I.  Book Sale Issues

A. The Career Center is re-locating to Moraine and their remodeling will likely block our access to the book storage room. Ideas were discussed on how to circumvent this problem including keeping reserve boxes in the main hall for faster/easier access during the sale and using trucks to haul boxes around the building during set-up and tear-down.

B. On the bright side, we may have more volunteers this year. As a special incentive, the club will be handing out complimentary "One Dollar Used Book Sale" t-shirts to any volunteers working 4 hours or more. Set-up will start around noon on Sunday March 28.

II.  Club Sponsored Scholarship/Field School Stipend

A. There is a lot of interest in increasing the number of scholarships/stipends awarded to students.

B. Further discussion on this issue will be postponed until after this semester's book sale to determine if our profits (and future scholarship/stipend funds) will be affected by the reduced access to the store room.

III. Speakers

A. The club agreed to pay Jim Wetzstein $50 for his talk on Thursday March 25 th .

IV. Club Sale Items

A. The club accountant was given the green light to order 48 canvas tote bags featuring the new club logo.

B. Cara will also look into the costs of ordering mugs and t-shirts with the new logo.

C. Club t-shirts will be presented to those receiving awards at this spring's honors tea coming up in April.

V. Cahokia Field Trip News

A. Unfortunately, there are no seats left on the IUN bus except for those students registered for the class. Any non-registered people interested in tagging along should make arrangements to car-pool, etc.

VI. Grant Recipients and Presentations

A. The club determined that those receiving grants to attend local conferences will not have to deliver formal presentations but are asked to attend a club meeting to discuss their experience with the other members.

B. An upcoming meeting will be picked where those who attended last fall's Peru workshop in Grand Rapids will get a chance to talk about the trip.
