High School Students

We're glad you're interested in IU Northwest. Our campus offers the quality and prestige of an Indiana University degree close to home. At IU Northwest, you'll discover a comfortable campus environment, flexible scheduling, and personal attention from faculty who care about you. We even have programs to give you a head start on your college education, including the Early Start Program and Kids College.

How to Become a Student at IU Northwest

  1. Complete the admission application (you can apply online right now).
  2. Send your nonrefundable $25 application fee, payable to the Office of the Bursar.
  3. Ask your high school and any colleges you have attended to send us your transcripts.
  4. Apply for financial aid.

A Calendar for Your Senior Year of High School

September, October, November

It's time to start thinking about going to college, and what you want to study. Do some research on the Web and arrange a campus visit. Here are some online resources you'll want to visit to learn more about what IU Northwest offers:

Admissions Office—start here to talk with an admissions counselor, learn about our admission requirements, apply online, and complete our enrollment checklist.

Activities—discover all there is to see and do at IU Northwest. From athletics to theatre to special interest clubs, there's something for everyone. Check out our Campus Calendar which includes student life activities and events on campus.

About IU Northwest—see what we offer including outstanding academic programs and faculty, personal attention, and an IU degree close to home.

Campus Tour—get a sneak preview of our campus, buildings, and community by taking our online tour.

Campus Visits—schedule a campus visit so you can really experience IU Northwest. You can tour our campus, meet current students, and learn about our academic programs and services.

Costs and Payment—begin to evaluate how much you can expect to pay for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses.

Financial Aid and Scholarships—find out more about scholarships, loans, and work-study opportunities that can help you finance your education.

Majors and Programs—earn an IU degree in more than 30 academic programs including bachelor's and master's degrees, two-year associate degrees, and certificate programs.

Maps and Directions—discover how we're conveniently located in Gary, Indiana, only a few blocks off the interstate and within 30 miles of Chicago.

December, January, February

Sit down with your parents to talk about how much college costs, and how you're going to finance your education. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit it by the March 1 deadline. Contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to learn more about the scholarships available on campus. Complete and submit your Application for Admission (you can apply online).

March, April, May

Begin to plan your fall semester using OneStart. Take placement exams and meet with your academic advisor.

June

Attend New Student Orientation. Set up your student e-mail account and get your student ID card.

August

Begin classes August 24, 2002.

Precollege Programs

Early Start Program—offers qualified college-bound high school juniors and seniors a chance to take college courses and earn college credits while still in high school.

Kids College—gives children ages 7 through 16 a preview of college life in the summer. More than 60 classes are offered and students get to write television commercials, go on archeological digs, and make scientific slime.
