2012 Web Redesign Project
Executive Summary
Background: Two years ago a project was completed that re-configured the campus website to utilize Cascade Server, the university's enterprise Web Content Management System (WCMS). There were several issues discovered after project completion that adversely affected the goals of the original project. The design of the templates and the information architecture of the website were not optimized for the WCMS product. It was also discovered that technical issues with the template design were causing an undue load on the University's server, impacting the use of the WCMS product for all university adopters of Cascade Server WCMS. Several quick fixes were attempted that partially mitigated these issues, but the ideal solution is a redesign of the templates and the architecture of the site.
Progress: A small but important part of the website has already been redesigned, starting with a few front page that was implemented in November of 2001 and updated in March 2012. The enrollment services websites (Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Bursar) were migrated into the new template during the Spring. Also several important gateway pages were updated and a new Online site was created in the new template design. The campus web team is now ready oversee the re-architecting and migration of the remainder of the website.
