  • Spirits, the Literary / Arts Magazine of IU Northwest

    Spirits – IU Northwest’s Art and Literature Journal

    Spirits is Indiana University Northwest’s bi-annual art and literature magazine. It features pieces by IUN students, as well as local, national, and international talent.

    Selections are made by a team of IUN students who specialize in creative writing, poetry, and/or visual art. For information on how to become part of our team, contact any current member or e-mail us at [[spirits]].

    Submitting to Spirits

    We are always accepting submissions.

    To submit your original, unpublished work, e-mail us at [[spirits]]. Please include a brief (1-2 sentence) bio in your submission e-mail.

    Poetry and Short Stories

    Please submit no more than five works of either poetry or fiction per semester.
    Short stories should be no longer than five single spaced pages.
    Accepted file formats: Word Document, PDF


    Please submit no more than five pieces per semester. Include the titles and medium of each piece in your submission e-mail. Only files saved at a high resolution, 200 DPI or larger, will be accepted.

    Accepted file formats: .jpg, .gif, .png, .tif

    If your images are too large to attach, upload them to Once you upload the file, an option will appear to the right of the file that says “share”. Click share and a URL will appear next to your file. Copy and paste that URL into your submission e-mail. Make sure “access” on your file (located next to the URL) is set to “open
