Request Transcripts

Information pertaining to requesting transcripts:

An official transcript is a comprehensive record of all courses completed at any of the Indiana University campuses. Any student whose university financial account is clear may obtain a copy of his or her complete academic record (official transcript) from the Office of the Registrar at IU Northwest.

Official transcripts are printed on security paper and are embossed with the Indiana University seal and signature of the Registrar. Transcripts are $8.00 each. To receive a copy of your transcript, all financial obligations to the University must be clear/current. This includes your account with the Bursar (219) 980-6622. If you have any past balance due, there will be a "hold" on your record, and we will not be able to issue your transcript. If you think you might have any past debt, please contact the Bursar's Office for clearance before submitting your transcript request.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act affords students certain rights with respect to their education records.

‌What is a PDF transcript delivery?

PDF transcript delivery is an electronically delivered official Indiana University transcript sent over a secure network to the e-mail address of the recipient you designate.

‌Are PDF transcrips official?

Yes. PDF transcripts issued by Indiana University are considered official documents and are certified by a digital signature and special security characteristics. In addition, each page of the transcript contains the signature of the Registrar and the university seal.

‌How can the recipient tell that a PDF transcript is authentic?

The recipient will receive instructions on how to authenticate the official PDF transcript. This will include steps the recipient must take to acquire an access code so that the transcript may be viewed.

‌Are all students eligible for PDF transcript delivery?

Because records prior to 1965 are in a different format, students who attended IU prior to 1965 are not eligible for PDF transcript delivery.

‌Who accepts PDF transcript?

PDF transcript delivery is becoming increasingly common. However, before requesting PDF transcript delivery, you should verify that the recipient will accept an electronic transcript. Additionally, it is important that you verify the appropriate e-mail address for transmission of the transcript.

‌Are there any system requirements for downloading a PDF transcript?

The recipient will need Adobe® Acrobat version 6.0 or greater, or Adobe® Reader version 6.04 or greater. The current version of Adobe® Reader is available free of charge and can be downloaded at http://www.Adobe.com. This information is mentioned in the e-mail notification that is sent to each recipient.

‌Can I forward a PDF transcript to someone else?

Each transcript issued in PDF format has warnings that the document is intended for the recipient only. In addition, the e-mail notification to the recipient states the same. Indiana University will not certify the authenticity of any PDF transcript that has been replicated or forwarded to any person or organization other than the intended recipient.

‌How do I order a PDF copy of my official transcript, and what will it cost?

When you order your transcript, choose “Electronic PDF via e-mail” when selecting your delivery option. The cost is thirteen dollars ($13). It will cost $8 for a copy of your official IU transcript + $5 to have that transcript sent electronically (PDF) to the recipient, for a total of $13 per transcript.

‌Will I be notified when my PDF transcript is sent?

If you are sending the transcript to a third party, a courtesy e-mail notification will be sent to you when the recipient has received their download instructions. (Note: If the requestor is a current IU student, the courtesy e-mail will be sent to the student’s IU e-mail address.)

‌Will I be notified when the recipient has downloaded my PDF transcript?

If you are sending the transcript to a third party, a courtesy e-mail notification will be sent to you when the recipient has downloaded the PDF. (Note: If the requestor is a current IU student, the courtesy e-mail will be sent to the student’s IU e-mail address.)

‌How long does the recipient have to download my PDF transcript?

The recipient has 30 days to download your PDF transcript before it expires. Recipients who have not downloaded your PDF transcript receive a reminder e-mail a few days prior to expiration.

‌What if the recipient does not receive the e-mail required to download the PDF transcript?

Please have the recipient check their junk mail for the e-mail.

Unofficial Transcripts

Currently enrolled students who simply want an unofficial copy of their transcript may obtain one without charge using OneStart. Be aware that any document produced from OneStart will not typically be accepted for any official transactions such as applications for admission or as proof of a degree. This tool is not available to students who have been out of school for any period of time.
To access your unofficial transcript using OneStart, follow these steps:

  • Log into OneStart
  • Click "Student Self-Service"
  • Click "Go to Student Center"
  • Click "My Academic & Grades"
  • Click "View My Unofficial Transcript"
  • On the page that appears, from the drop-down menu next to "Academic Institution," select the appropriate campus. Next to "Report Type," select Unofficial/Cur Enrl/All Career. (This will include your current classes in the transcript. Select Unofficial/All Career if you don't want to include your current classes.) Then, click "Go."

The unofficial transcript is designed to show exactly the same information as your official Indiana University transcript. Term and cumulative IU GPA statistics throughout the transcript are based on university-wide rules (for example, all X grades are honored for exclusion from the GPA, and all coursework and grades are included even if repeated).

At the end of the transcript, you will also see the Student Program GPA summary. These statistics are calculated according to the rules of your current program (e.g., whether X grades are honored for exclusion from the GPA, whether courses may be repeated for credit). Certain courses may be designated with a note indicating the course was repeated or an equivalent course was later completed. Courses with this note are excluded from the Student Program GPA calculation.
