Roberts has extensive experience in administrative roles in higher education

Tuesday May 10, 2016

Indiana University Northwest has announced the selection of Cynthia Roberts, Ph.D., as the Dean of the School of Business and Economics. Roberts, who previously served in numerous administrative capacities at Purdue University North Central in Westville, Ind., will join the campus effective August 1, 2016.

Roberts has served Purdue North Central for the past 16 years, in the roles of Chair of the Department of Business and Leadership, Director of the MBA Program, Interim Dean of the College of Business, and the Teddy Jacobi Dean of the College of Business.

“Dr. Roberts brings a record of impressive accomplishments in the areas of both teaching and research, including awards for outstanding teaching and numerous publications in the areas of leadership, gender, community engagement, and servant leadership,” said IU Northwest Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Mark McPhail.

Roberts said she is humbled and honored to have been chosen as IU Northwest’s next Dean.

“IU Northwest, and in particular, the School of Business and Economics, has enjoyed a long history in our region of academic excellence,” Roberts said. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues to explore opportunities to make an even greater impact on the lives of our students as well as the social and economic well-being of the region.”

Roberts earned her Ph.D. in Organization Development from Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. and two master’s degrees from Loyola University in Chicago.

The region’s longest-running AASCB-accredited public business school, the School of Business and Economics initially earned this certification in 2004. AACSB Accreditation is widely regarded as the highest level of accreditation for business schools. Only 15 percent of business schools domestically and less than 5 percent of business schools internationally earn this prestigious certification of quality. Because of its AACSB International accreditation, the School offers its high achieving students membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Business Honor Society.
