Notes of Distinction: May 2016

Whether it’s a published article or book, a prestigious award, or speaking engagement, members of Indiana University Northwest’s faculty and staff continue to share their wealth of expertise. Here are the most recent top achievers that have made a name for themselves and IU Northwest.

 

Demetra Andrews, Assistant Professor of Marketing, recently received two awards for a paper she presented at the annual Marketing Management Association conference.  The paper, "Product Information and Consumer Choice Confidence in Multi-item Sales Promotions," was awarded the Firooz Hekmat Award for the best paper in the Consumer Behavior research track as well as the 2016 MBAA International McGraw-Hill Distinguished Paper Award for the best paper presented at the MMA Conference.

Subir Bandyopadhyay, Professor of Marketing, recently received the Innovator Award, bestowed by the Center for Innovation and Scholarship in Teaching and Learning. Bandyopadhyay was recognized for his use of real-life and community-based student projects in his courses.

Mianta’ Diming, director of Human Resources, recently received the Distinguished Employee of the Year Excellence Award. This award recognizes outstanding staff who demonstrate dedication in achieving the mission of the University and their operating department, perform assigned tasks in an exemplary fashion, inspire other employees to improve, and demonstrate leadership and the ability to guide others.

Gianluca Di Muzio, Associate Professor of Philosophy, recently earned the 2016 Founders Day Award. This award recognizes excellence in teaching.

Steven Dunphy, Associate Professor of Management, was recently informed that he and his co-presenter received the Best Presenter award for their paper, Using comic art to illustrate various and nefarious modern business practices, at the recent 5th International Conference on Business and Economic Development (ICBED), held in April in New York. Dunphy also recently learned that his co-authored manuscript on "The Role of Knowledge-Based Psychological Climates in Human Resource Management Systems," has been accepted by the journal, Management Decisions.

Tanice Foltz, Professor of Sociology, recently earned the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs “Distinguished Service Award.” The award recognizes distinguished service by IU Northwest faculty and is designed to recognize substantive, significant, and sustained service activities across their academic career while a member of the IU community.

Tin-Chun Lin, Associate Professor of Economics, recently received the Scholarship in Teaching and Learning Award, bestowed by the Center for Innovation and Scholarship in Teaching and Learning. Lin was recognized for his numerous scholarly publications related to economics and education and his article “An Investigation of the Relationship between In-Class and Out-of-Class Efforts on Student Learning: Empirical Evidence and Strategy Suggestion,” which was accepted for publication by the Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Ana Osan, Professor of Modern Languages, recently earned the 2016 Distinguished Scholarship/Creative Activity Award which recognizes distinguished research by IU Northwest faculty and is designed to recognize substantive, significant, and sustained scholarship/creative activity across the academic career while a member of the IU community.

Naomi Palagi, Academic Advisor/Administrator for the College of Arts and Sciences, recently received the Outstanding Staff Pride Excellence Award. This award recognizes outstanding staff who create or foster a more productive workplace, promote the image of IU Northwest, work hard, usually behind-the-scenes, do the job well, are knowledgeable about all aspects of their position, and interact positively with campus constituents.

Micah Pollak, Assistant Professor of Economics, recently received an award for Excellence in Online Course Design and Delivery, bestowed by the Center for Innovation and Scholarship in Teaching and Learning. Pollak was recognized for his efforts in personalizing course content, creating engaging course activities, aesthetically pleasing and interactive course design, and consistent presence in his online course.

Cynthia Robles, Academic Advisor for Academic Support and Advising, recently received the Outstanding Staff Customer Service Excellence Award. This award recognizes outstanding staff who exemplify exceptional customer service.

Maureen Rutherford, Visiting Lecturer of Psychology, recently received the Innovator Award, bestowed by the Center for Innovation and Scholarship in Teaching and Learning. Rutherford was recognized for her use of collaborative quizzes and interest in online innovations.

Kelly Zieba, director of Enrollment Management Finance & Operation, School of Education, recently received the Distinguished Employee of the Year Excellence Award. This award recognizes outstanding staff who demonstrate dedication in achieving the mission of the University and their operating department, perform assigned tasks in an exemplary fashion, inspire other employees to improve, and demonstrate leadership and the ability to guide others.

Recipients of this year’s Board of Trustees’ Teaching Award include: Demetra Andrews, Mark Baer, Alonso Contreras-Astorga, Daniel Kelly, Cara Lewis, Micah Pollak, Sharon Pratt, Maureen Rutherford, Daniel Tsataros, Tia Walker.
