IU Northwest Launches ‘Career Connections’ for alumni

Website to connect IU Northwest alumni with resources to advance their careers, opportunities to help current students as they begin theirs

Tuesday Oct 06, 2015

Today, IU Northwest launched Career Connections, a new web portal that will connect IU Northwest alumni to resources for advancing their careers, while also providing the opportunity to advise current students as they embark on theirs. The new website, a collaborative effort between the IU Northwest Alumni Association (IUNAA) and the IU Northwest Office of Career Services, is intended to serve as a connection point for IU Northwest alumni to the campus through career services, professional development and mentorship.

Specifically, Career Connections will give IU Northwest alumni a central hub from which to access the many career tools and resources that are available through IU Northwest’s Office of Career Services and the IU Alumni Association. Such services include resume and cover letter writing, job interview training, professional networking, career webinars, career change assistance, and more. IU Northwest’s Office of Career Services has a great deal of expertise in working with both students and alumni in meeting their career objectives.

“The Office of Career Services is excited to launch Career Connections in partnership with the IU Northwest Alumni Association,” said Sharese Dudley, Director of the Office of Career Services. “For many years, our office has guided students to their chosen fields of study and have then continued to assist them in advancing their careers as alumni. We are pleased to be able to showcase all that we have to offer alumni through Career Connections, while also linking them to the many other career services available through the University.”

While access to career resources is an important aspect of Career Connections, a centerpiece of the new website is its access point to IUvisors – the IU Alumni Association’s new web-based career-mentoring platform. More than 900 IU alumni have signed up as career advisors through the IUvisors platform to assist other alumni and students by engaging in career conversations, providing resume critiques, and conducting mock interviews. The platform provides a meaningful, flexible and private way for alumni to make a difference through sharing their career experience.

Up until now, IUvisors has been available only to IU Bloomington alumni for alumni-to-alumni career advising and to School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) students. IU Northwest is the first regional campus to make IUvisors available to its alumni and the first IU campus to make the service available to all of its current students. As such, IU Northwest alumni are encouraged to join the pool of IUvisors so that they can share their career experience and know-how with future IU Northwest graduates.

“Career Connections is not only a wonderful opportunity for IU Northwest alumni to reconnect with the University through the many career resources available to them, but is also a unique opportunity for them to reconnect with our campus by giving back,” said Paulette LaFata-Johnson, Director of Alumni Relations. “IU Northwest alumni can make a big impact on our students by sharing their professional wisdom and making their career journey a bit easier.”

IU Northwest alumni can access IUvisors, as well as the many career tools and resources available to them, by visiting the Career Connections website at
