Andrew Kapocius named Executive Director for Facilities and Operations


Kapocius brings to campus 30 years of facilities management, 15 years of personnel management experience

(Gary, Ind.) – Indiana University Northwest announced today the appointment of Andrew Kapocius as the Executive Director for Facilities and Operations. Kapocius brings 30 years of facilities management and 15 years of personnel management experience to IU Northwest, and is currently the Opening Account Manager at Viox Services in Fort Wayne, Ind. He will join IU Northwest effective July 20, 2015.

Kapocius has a well-established record of leading facilities and support services. His experience includes managing all aspects of building maintenance; coordinating operations and service providers; developing and adhering to departmental budgets; and managing the planning, coordination and implementation of new services and projects. Throughout his career, he has also been successful at increasing efficiency through implementing preventative maintenance measures, evaluating information and process details, and making tactical recommendations to resolve issues under strict deadlines.

“Andrew Kapocius is an accomplished professional with a demonstrated record of success in managing facilities and operational support services while increasing efficiency,” Chancellor William J. Lowe said.  “These skills are vitally important for the seamless operation of the various departments and facilities that comprise IU Northwest, which contributes to the overall academic experience and success of our students. We are very much looking forward to Mr. Kapocius joining our leadership team as Executive Director of Facilities and Operations.”

In his role as Executive Director for Facilities and Operations, Kapocius will serve as the chief campus operations officer with supervisory responsibility for critical support functions that affect many aspects of our campus’s ability to engage students to succeed. As an integral member of the campus’s senior leadership team, he will be engaged in campus strategic planning with the Chancellor’s office, Vice Chancellors, Campus Chief Financial Officer, and Campus Information Officer. As a member of the Campus Budget Committee, he will contribute to the development of financial goals and decision making for preparation of the campus’s annual operating budget. Andrew will coordinate planning for campus construction and land acquisitions in consultation with the IU Office of Capital Planning and Facilities and, as such, will oversee the construction of the new Arts and Sciences Building. He will also oversee fire prevention and safety and Parking Services, and co-chair the Crisis Management Team.

“Having spent the majority of my career within the facilities maintenance and management profession, I look forward to joining IU Northwest for the opportunity to make a lasting impression on students, faculty, staff and visitors by creating the most favorable campus environment that can be generated within our budget and cost-saving initiatives,” Kapocius said. “I especially look forward to overseeing construction of the new Arts and Sciences building, as the facility will offer unparalleled opportunities for the next generation of IU Northwest students.”

Previously, Kapocius served as Manager of Maintenance and Operations at Fort Wayne Community Schools; Opening Director of Engineering and Interim General Manager of White Lodging Services; and Vice President and Chief Support Officer of Crossroad Child and Family Services. He also served as Project Manager at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Ill.

Kapocius earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., and his Bachelor of Science in Management at Trine University in Angola, Ind., and completed coursework in mechanical engineering at Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne. He also earned an Associate degree in HVAC technology from Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne, and has also earned Hospitality and Facilities Executive certification, Facility Manager certification, and Universal EPA certification.
