  • To change, delete, or add a College of Arts and Sciences Major or Minor, send an email to Plan Changes from your IU email account and include the following information:

    • Name
    • Student ID#
    • What Major/minor you are changing from and what Major/minor you are changing to (be sure to include BS, BA, or BFA for your Major).

    If you prefer, you may fill out a paper form available in Hawthorn Hall 246 (or HH231 or HH225.)

  • This is a matrix of courses that satisfy Group requirements in the College of Arts and Sciences.  Groups I, II, III, IV and Intensive Writing: Baccalaureate students in the College of Arts and Sciences must complete Groups I-IV distribution requirements.   • To transfer into College of Arts and Sciences as a Major or Exploratory student, send an email to Plan Changes from your IU email account and include the following information:
    • Name
    • Student ID#
    • What Major you are transferring from and what Major/minor you are transferring to (be sure to include BS, BA, or BFA for your Major, or put Exploratory).

    If you prefer, you may fill out a paper form available in Hawthorn Hall 246 (or HH231 or HH225.)

  • To transfer out of the College of Arts and Sciences to another Major on campus, send an email to Plan Changes from your IU email account and include the following information:
    • Name
    • Student ID#
    • What Major you are transferring from and what School and/or Major you are transferring to.

    If you prefer, you may fill out a paper form available in Hawthorn Hall 246 (or HH231 or HH225.)

  • To add a minor in the College of Arts and Sciences, send an email to Plan Changes from your IU email account and include the following information:
    • Name
    • Student ID#
    • What your Major is and what minor you would like to add.
  • The Undergraduate Advising Contacts  list will give you contacts for primary advisors in each area.
  • 1)      Meet with your academic advisor.  To find out who your advisor is, consult the Undergraduate Advising Contacts list.

    2) Consult the Group Distribution and IW Matrix.

    3) Consult the IU Northwest Bulletin.

    4) Avoid self advising.

  • If you are a continuing student in the College of Arts and Sciences and have been absent for more than one semester, OR if you had applied for graduation but need to take further courses, you must take two steps:

    1) Send an email to Term Activation from your IU email account or call 219-980-6733 and include the following information:

    • Name
    • Student ID#
    • What Major/minor you are pursuing
    • What semester you wish to register for

    2) Contact or visit the  Office of the Registrar  to do a Residency Verification (not needed if you are enrolled in the current semester).

  • 1) If you are a student in the College of Arts and Sciences, set up an appointment with an advisor in your major, or with an Exploratory Advisor if you do not have a major.  If you do not know your advisor, consult the Undergraduate Advising Contacts list.   

    2) After you have met with the advisor, please ask them to send an email with your name and ID number to Remove Advising Hold.

  • An Fx is defined in the IU Northwest Bulletin here.

    To request an Fx in the College of Arts and Sciences, you must meet the following criteria:

    • Have taken both the initial course and the repeated course at an IU campus
    • Have gotten an “F” in the initial class
    • Have received a final grade in the repeated course
    • Not have more than 3 Fx’s already
    • Be an undergraduate student

    Send an email to COAS FX from your IU email account and include the following information:

    • Name
    • Student ID#
    • What course you wish to Fx

    You may contact your instructor or the Department Chair if you are seeking an Incomplete.

  • How: A joint application form for Graduation and Senior Audit may be filled out in Hawthorn Hall 246 (or 231, 224, or 225).  Results from Senior Audits may take 2-4 weeks.

    When: “An application for a degree must be filed in the Office of the College of Arts and Sciences no later than July 1 for December graduation. May and August graduates must file the application for graduation by October 15. Degrees are conferred in May, August, and December. Commencement is held only in May.” –2014-2016 IUNW Bulletin

  • To participate in Commencement, you must first apply to graduate (see above.) Information about Commencement is available at http://www.iun.edu/commencement/.
  • Degrees will be noted on your transcript 2-4 weeks after the semester is completed.  Diplomas are generally ready 4-7 weeks after the semester.  The Office of the Registrar will send a letter to your home address notifying you when your Diploma is ready for pick-up.
  • Many resources are available through the Red Hawk Info Hub/Need Help, and as always, your academic advisor can also be a great resource for you.

                    Student Support Services offers a number of services including Disability Services.

                    Retroactive Administrative Withdrawal may be an option for students with strong documentation for highly disruptive life circumstances.
