Step Two

Complete your application: Submitting transcripts and test scores, avoid common application mistakes, and making changes to your application.

Our application process is simple, straightforward, and convenient, and we can help you every step of the way!

  • Are you using a desktop/laptop and have you enabled pop ups?

We know you love your mobile device, but, unfortunately, phones and tablets are not recommended for use in completing the online application. Also, if you are using Safari or Chrome, make sure you allow popups and enable third-party cookies to ensure that your application and fee payment will be submitted correctly. However, if you want to avoid any possible submission issues, we recommend that you use Internet Explorer—the online application works best with this browser.

If you don’t have a major in mind, mark yourself as Exploratory?

Many students come to IU Northwest wanting to explore their options for a major—and that’s a good thing! If you are undecided about a specific major, mark “Exploratory (general)” on your application. If you know you would like to study in the College of Arts and Sciences but are undecided about a specific major, choose “Exploratory (College).”

Will you be submitting a fee waiver?

Please note that the application fee can be waived for current high school students who have demonstrated financial need through the submission of a completed ACT, SAT, or NACAC fee waiver form by their high school counselor and 21st Century Scholars. Your application will not be processed and a decision will not be made until we receive a fee waiver form or your $35 application fee.

  • You’ll need to take the SAT and/or ACT to apply to IU Northwest.

You do not need to take both tests to apply, but we do encourage you to take both! We also encourage you to test early and often, and to submit all test scores to increase your chances for admission and scholarship consideration.

We superscore, which means when reviewing your application, we'll consider your best test scores. We’ll consider the highest critical reading and math component scores for the SAT. For the ACT, we'll combine the highest scores for each different exams for a new ACT composite.

Use the codes listed below to have your official scores sent to Indiana University Northwest.

    • SAT – IU Northwest School Code – 1388
    • ACT - IU Northwest Code – 1218

If you're planning to take the redesigned SAT and want to know how it could impact your application to IU Northwest, please visit our Redesigned SAT page.

We will not superscore the old SAT scores with the new Redesigned scores.

  • To complete your application for admission, we require an official high school transcript sent directly from your high school. If your school sends transcripts electronically and the transcript vendor requires an email address for delivery, please use [[admit2]]. You can also have your official transcript mailed to the following address:

    Office of Admissions
    Indiana University Northwest
    3400 Broadway
    Gary, IN 46410

Your offer of admission is contingent upon the successful completion of the academic course work outlined in your transcript and/or admission application. We expect you to maintain your high level of academic performance. Please note that if you are admitted and choose IU Northwest, we will require a copy of your high school transcript with final grades and graduation date as soon as it is available.

    Dual Credit or Concurrent Enrollment

If you are enrolled in any college courses in high school, you’ll need to send those transcripts as well.  College transcripts may be mailed to the address above or sent electronically to [[admit2]].  If the class is through IU there is no need to send transcripts.

  • If you choose to apply to IU Northwest online, you’ll create three different accounts in total:

    Your guest account

The sole purpose of the guest account is to enable you to apply online.

Approximately two weeks after you create your guest account and submit your application, you’ll receive an email with your University ID number. (If you did not apply online, you will still receive an email after we’ve processed your application. That email will contain your University ID number.) You’ll use your University ID number to create your IU computing account, which will enable you to check the status of your application.

    Your IU computing account

This is different than the guest account. You will create this account after you apply to check the status of your application. Creating two accounts helps us keep your personal information safe at all stages of the application process.

If you’re admitted to IU Northwest, you’ll eventually create a third and final account:

Your IU email account! You’ll continue to use this for your full academic career at IU Northwest.
