Step One

Freshman applicants should be on track to graduate, or should have graduated, from a commissioned Indiana high school, comparable out-of-state institution or an approved homeschool, successfully completing a college prep curriculum or earned a High School Equivalency Diploma (GED) or Core 40 Diploma. 

Effective with the 2011 high school graduating class, the Indiana Core 40 Diploma is a minimum requirement for admission.  Students not achieving a Core 40 should apply to Ivy Tech Community College and complete 12 general education credit hours (100 level or higher) then apply to transfer to IU Northwest.  

  • Applying online and paying the application fee by credit or debit card. For Fall 2018, you will be able to Apply IU by completing one application and directing it to all campuses that interest you.

    • Official copies of their high school transcript or GED test results mailed directly to the IU Northwest Office of Admissions.   If your school participates in Parchment, you are encouraged to utilize the Parchment link on your school's website or go to http://exchange.parchment.com/students/.
    • Current high school Seniors must also submit SAT and/or ACT test scores

  • If you completed dual credit classes while in high school, we will need an official transcript from the dual credit partner college/university.  Once the class is completed and grades are posted please have the official transcript sent electronically to [[admit2]] or to:

     If the class is through IU there is no need to send transcripts.

  • Applications are reviewed daily. Once the Office of Admissions has received all required information, you will be notified with a written decision.

    In addition, Applicants should: 

    • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Rank in the upper half of the high school graduating class.
    • Score above the median established by northwest Indiana students on the SAT or ACT. (If you have been out of school for more than one year, these scores are not required.) GED recipients must have a total score that is above the average for Indiana residents. 

    IU Northwest may accept students who are deficient in the standards listed above after additional testing and holistic review.
