How Do I Create My Technology Accounts at Home?

The day after you are admitted to Indiana University, you can use the online Account Management Service to create your first computing accounts. This service will allow you to create an e-mail account, set your passphrase, and also create two accounts that will allow you to authenticate to various IU services (your Network ID and your ADS Domain account.)

Technology Accounts are required to:

What You Will Need:

  • A computer with an internet connection
  • Your last name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your 10 digit University ID

What Do I do?

  • On the internet, go to: https://itaccounts.iu.edu/ . The Account Management Service (AMS) starts.
  • Click the button in front of Student and Create my first IU computing accounts and passphrases. Then click Continue and Continue again.
  • First, you will need to agree to the guidelines for appropriate use of your computer accounts at IUN. Read the guidelines on each screen and click Continue. If you agree to the guidelines for appropriate usage, type yes at the final screen and then click Continue. (If you do not agree to the guidelines, you will not be able to create accounts at this time, and you will exit the service.)
  • Next, you will need to provide your last name, date of birth, and the 10 digit University ID.
  • Continue to follow the on-screen instructions to complete the AMS. When you are asked to create your passphrase, please read all the requirements first as the system will check to make sure your passphrase meets all the requirements.
  • At the end, you should see a screen that tells you 3 accounts were created. Be sure you write down your username when it appears.

I can login to my email account, but I can't login to Oncourse.

  • You may need to "synchronize" your passphrases. Go to: https://passphrase.iu.edu/
  • Type your username in the first box.
  • If you do not want to change your passphrase at this time, type your current passphrase in all 3 passphrase boxes.
  • If you do want to change your passphrase, type your current passphrase in the first passphrase box and type a new passphrase in the last two boxes.
  • You may need to wait at least 5 minutes for the change to take effect.
  • If this does not work or you cannot remember your passphrase, go to Marram 103 or Savannah 227 and ask the Lab Consultant on duty to reset your passphrase. You must present your Student ID Card. NO exceptions.
  • For more complex problems, visit the Help Desk in Raintree 204. You must present your Student ID card. NO exceptions.

IPFW Students

IPFW students taking internet courses need to contact their professor so the professor can create an IU Affiliate account for them. After the IU Affiliate account is created, you will have to log into the Account Management System and select IU Affiliate instead of student to create your Network-ID.
