Our campus offers more than 70 undergraduate degrees from within the School of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, and School of Business and Economics, and more than 20 graduate degree and certificate programs for professionals or postgraduates seeking to advance their career. We are also home to the IU School of Medicine-Northwest-Gary, which serves as the region's only medical school.

We feature a faculty of leading experts and award-winning educators. Nearly 65 percent of our full-time faculty are tenured or on a tenure track, with more than 80 percent having achieved the highest degree attainable in their field. Our faculty have contributed to some of the world’s top academic journals, exhibited their art in internationally acclaimed galleries, and been awarded Fulbright grants and other prestigious research and teaching awards.

Indiana University Northwest is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission as an Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) Institution and as a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). In addition, many schools, divisions and program have acquired additional accreditation through professional societies. IU Northwest History

Established in Gary, Indiana, in 1963, IU Northwest is located on a 36-acre campus in the northwest corner of the state. We are a focal point for our students and the region offering nationally recognized degree programs, a diverse student body, a supportive environment, and unique cultural opportunities.

Student Enrollment

In the fall of 2015, 5,848 students were enrolled at IU Northwest. Our students are:

  • 94% undergraduates and 6% graduate students
  • 71% full-time students and 29% part-time students (undergraduate population)
  • 69% women and 31% men
  • 98% residents of Northwest Indiana
  • 19% African-American and 20% Hispanic
