Student and alumni groups at Indiana University Northwest are rallying to restock the shelves at area blood banks this summer with a blood drive sponsored by the Student Alumni Association and the Office of Alumni Relations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, July 26 in the Moraine Student Center. Current statistics report that someone in the U.S. needs donated blood every two seconds and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed daily. A single donated unit of blood can help save up to three lives. To schedule an appointment, visit http://www.redcrossblood.org/make-donation-sponsor, and enter the sponsor code "iun.” First time donors will need to create a profile. Returning donors can log in by entering their e-mail address and date of birth as the default password. The Student Alumni Association will also schedule appointments from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, July 12 and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 18 in the Moraine Student Center. Donors will receive an iTunes gift card, a RailCats Game Flex ticket and be entered into a drawing for a $25 Visa gift card. The Moraine Student Center is located on the north end of the IU Northwest campus in Gary, just one half-mile south of I-80-94. For more information, contact the IU Northwest Office of Alumni Relations at (219) 980-6769 or alumninw@iun.edu.
