IU Northwest welcomes Women’s History Month speaker, Sophia Nelson, March 31

Nelson to speak on ‘Redefining 21st Century Women’

On Thursday, March 31, the IU Northwest Office of Diversity Programming welcomes Sophia Nelson as its featured speaker in recognition of Women’s History Month at 6 p.m. in Hawthorn Hall (107).

Nelson, a Virginia-based author, speaker and commentator, is a columnist for JET magazine and contributes regularly to other national publications and television networks. She routinely speaks on such topics as workplace retention and advancement strategies for women of color, as well as relationships, health and wellness, spirituality and career transformation for all women.

Her highly anticipated book, “Black Woman Redefined,” available for purchase at the event, takes a look at the lives of accomplished black women, serving as a “survival guide” of sorts to help women extend themselves beyond conventional stereotypes that often limit and define them. Such are the concepts she will cover in her talk on “Redefining 21^st Century Women.”

The public is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served. The IU Northwest campus is located on Broadway Avenue in Gary, one half-mile south of I-80/94.
