Favorite Web Sites: Federal and State
Income Tax Information
The web sites featured this month have been critically evaluated
and selected by the IU Northwest librarians as well as a group of academic
and public librarians across the United States who compile a yearly Best
Free Reference Web Sites List for the American
Library Association. Here is a list of selection
criteria initially created by the MARS Best Free Websites Task
Force to choose these sites. The Library hopes our readers will
find these web sites useful for locating reliable, accurate and
authoritative information on the Internet.
While your local library and post office may very well have all
the forms and instructions you'll need to complete your taxes,
it is also very convenient to have the federal forms and information
available on the web. The IRS site contains a nice selection of
formats available to aid viewing and printing of forms. Multiple
files can be selected on the site which means that you can begin
downloading all the files in unison instead of one-by-one. Making
the site even more convenient, links are provided to state tax
forms and to federal forms for previous years. To reach the Forms
and Publications Home Page from the IRS' newly designed web site,
click on the Site Map link and under the Resources section
located in the left frame, choose the Forms and Publications link.

This well designed site features easy access to Illinois state
tax forms for individuals and businesses in PDF (i.e. Adobe Acrobat(r))
format. Some tax forms can be filled in online and then printed
out. The web page also offers electronic filing as well as resources,
publications and online help for various tax questions.
This very navigable web resource provides clickable links to Indiana
state tax forms, online assistance, electronic services, taxpayer
resources and publications along with tax filing deadlines. The
tax form section includes tax forms that can be viewed and printed
in PDF format using Adobe Acrobat(r) Reader. Some of these forms
can be filled in on the browser and then printed. This page also
links to Indiana prior year forms, federal tax forms and other
states' tax forms.
IU Northwest Library Introduces a Proxy Server for Off Campus Database
Access
The IU Northwest Library recently switched from a VPN connection to a
proxy server for providing IU Northwest students, faculty and staff
with off campus access to electronic databases.
Here are instructions for using the proxy server.
- To search any online database or index from home, members of
the IU Northwest campus community should go to the IU Northwest Library's
Electronic
Information Page and choose the All Databases Listed
Alphabetically link under the Electronic Resources
heading.
- At the next screen, select any database that has a
red IU Northwest with a yellow key next to it. After choosing a specific
database with this symbol, another browser window will appear.
This window has boxes where you need to enter IU Northwest Network ID and
Password. (NOTE: This is the same user id and password used
for OneStart, OnCourse, etc.)
- Once the correct information is entered, the selected database
will appear.
- If you plan to search several databases while connected to the
proxy server, keep the original browser with the list of databases
open so you don't have to enter your user id and password each
time.
- UPDATE: Be sure to download the
Windows Authentication Update Tool from the IU Ware web site
before logging into the proxy server.

MLA International Bibliography and PsycArticles
Join the Inspire Database Lineup
MLA International Bibliography and
PsycArticles became EBSCO (i.e. Inspire) databases in late
Fall Semester 2004.
Produced by the Modern Language Association, the electronic
version of MLA International Bibliography
features over 1.6 million citations from 4,400 journals and series
and 1,000 book publishers dating back to 1963. Coverage includes
subjects in the following areas: literature, language and
linguistics, folklore, literary theory and criticism, dramatic arts,
rhetoric, and the theory and practice of teaching language and
literature.
PsycArticles is the definitive resource of
searchable full-text articles on current issues in psychology from
1985 to the present. The database covers general psychology as well
as specialized, clinical and theoretical research in the field.
This product features more than 39,000
searchable full-text articles from 44 journals published by the
American Psychological Association and 8 from allied organizations.
some journal titles carried by PsycArticles include
American Psychologist, Journal of Abnormal Psychology and
Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
IU Northwest students, faculty and staff can access these databases off
campus by going to the IU
Northwest
Library's Electronic Information Page. At the next screen,
select the All Databases Listed Alphabetically link under the
Electronic Resources heading. At the next page, click the
Inspire Databases link. Then choose the EBSCOhost Web link on
the EBSCOhost Research Databases screen. At the EBSCOhost main menu,
select either MLA International Bibliography or
PsycArticles.
