Take a Sneak Preview of the New Unicorn Web-Based Catalog

A new web site devoted to a test version of the new web-based online catalog is now available to all library users. This web site features links to:

• A practice online catalog using a small test database of 120,000 records out of a possible 5 million.
• A brief PowerPoint introduction to the primary aspects of the new catalog. NOTE: This presentation works best when using Internet Explorer.
• An e-mail address where comments and suggestions may be sent.

Care Plans and Case Studies Web Site Wins Award

In November, the Care Plans and Case Studies Web Site created by Ellen Bosman received an award from Med 411, Inc.  Criteria for the award included:

• Content of interest to healthcare professionals
• Tone and presentation maintained at a professional level
• Site structure, navigation and graphic design executed at a professional level
• High level of integrity and credibility

IU Northwest Library Staff Professional Accomplishments

Bob Moran, Director of Library Services has been appointed associate editor of Library Administration and Management, a quarterly publication of the Library Administration and Management Division of the American Library Association. He will serve two years as associate editor and then will be the publication's editor for the following two years.

Nicholas Rosselli, Systems Librarian/ Webmaster was a featured speaker at the panel presentation Creating an Electronic Reserves System at the Indiana Library Federation District 1 Conference held at the University of Notre Dame on October 3.

The Best Free Web Sites 2000 compiled by the Machine-Assisted Reference Section (MARS) Best Web Sites Task Force Task Force was recently published in the Fall 2000 issue of Reference and User Services Quarterly ( vol. 40, no.1, p.32-40). Carol Rusinek, Reference Services Librarian is a member of this Reference and User Services Division Task Force of 13 librarians from various types of libraries throughout the United States who selected and critically evaluated the top 29 reference web sites for 2000. Ellen Bosman, Head of Technical Services was an invited speaker at the Lutheran Church Library Association's Biannual Conference in Denver, Colorado. She presented a program focusing on creating a sign system for a church library which featured a PowerPoint presentation based on her signage web site.

Lynn Scott, former Reference/Government Documents Assistant became the Technical Services Department's new Serials Unit Head in October.

Audrea Davis, previous Reserves Department Unit Head was promoted to Head of the Circulation Department in October.

Ed Seykowski recently accepted the Reference /Government Publications Assistant position. He will assume his new duties on December 18.
