Inspire Databases Debut on the Online Catalog
Thanks to a statewide funding initiative, IU Northwest has had access
since January to a suite of databases that provide full-text
articles to journals. These periodical indexes supplied by EbscoHost
replace the IAC databases (Expanded Academic Index, Business
Index and National Newspaper Index) that were in use
as recently as Fall Semester 1997. Web
access requires an IU Northwest network connection;
access will be denied users attempting to connect through commercial
internet providers like America Online. The Ebsco databases are
available to users without an IU Northwest Network connection through
telnet via the IU Libraries IO: Information Online Catalog. The
databases include:
Academic Search FullText Elite - Access to
information in the social sciences, humanities, general science,
education and multicultural disciplines; offers abstracts and
indexing for over 3,100 scholarly journals; full text for over
1,000 journals; coverage of 700 peer reviewed journals plus the Wall
Street Journal, New York Times and Christian Science
Monitor.
Business Source Elite - Includes popular national
business titles as well as regional and international titles
from financial, banking, trade and industry publications; searchable
full text for over 655 journals including The Economist, Forbes, Business
Week and Consumer Reports and more than 40 regional
business publications. It also includes indexing and abstracting
for over 1100 business journals including the Wall Street
Journal.
Newspaper Source - Includes full text of the Christian
Science Monitor dating from January 1995 and indexing and
abstracting for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA
Today and the Christian Science Monitor to January
1995. Also featured are abstracts from the New York Times
Magazine and the New York Times Book Review.
Ovid Health and Medical Database System Offers New Full-Text
Databases
The Ovid Health and Medical Information system now provides
access to 6 collections containing full-text articles to over
80 biomedical, psychiatric and nursing journals online including
Science and Nature. In each case, the journal's entire content
including thousands of illustrations and editorials are available.
Ovid also includes access to indexes such as Medline and CINAHL.
To search and retrieve articles from on campus, go directly to
the IU Northwest Library Electronic Information
Page. If you choose to access Ovid from
home you can connect via either the Web or
via telnet to IO. These methods require you to log in using your
valid I ID Number to login.

Carl UnCover/ Reveal Provides Journal Table of Contents Service
Via E-Mail
UnCover
Reveal is a service which allows users with Profiles to
create a list of journal titles which interest them. The table
of contents services from these selected titles are then delivered
to the user's e-mail address when they are entered into the
UnCover database. Keyword search terms or names of authors
may also be checked against new CARL entries weekly (both books
and journals ) and these search results are also sent via e-mail
to the user's desktop. A person may subscribe to this service
anytime they login and can register for up to 50 journal titles
and / or 25 keyword and author searches matched against new
UnCover citations on a weekly basis. This service is paid by
the IU Libraries.
To Create a Profile:
Click on "Create a New Profile." You will be sent to a
screen that allows you to navigate fields to enter information
such as name, address, phone and fax numbers, payment information,
etc. Payment information is necessary when ordering complete
journal articles only. If you choose to enter a credit card number
for your payment method, enter the card number with no spaces
between the numbers. Remember to write down the Profile Number
the system assigns you and the Profile password you create. Click
on "Save Profile" when finished. At this point, it will
take UnCover 24 hours to validate your e-mail address and profile.
