Instructional Technology Specialist (PAE3SA) - Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL)

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) of IU Northwest is seeking a full-time professional individual to serve as the center’s Instructional Technology Specialist.  This position provides assistance to faculty in the development of instructional strategies and materials having a technology focus; training for faculty on the use of computer applications, such as OnCourse and OnCourse CL, E-Portfolio, BreezeLive and others commonly found on desktop computers or those typically found on instructional lab computers; designs and delivers workshops, brownbags, webinars and podcasts; a link between IT and CETL; and contributes helpful hints, resources and announcements in the IU Northwest Newsletter on behalf of CETL.   

Essential Functions: 

  • Assist in the development of technology training programs for faculty, staff, and students and deliver same, such as OnCourse CL, E-Portfolio, etc.

  • Advise and assist faculty in the best use of instructional technology to enhance instruction

  • Design and deliver workshops, brownbags, webinars, and/or podcasts on technology related topics

  • Collaborate with faculty, CETL’s Instructional Design Specialist, IT staff and other individuals/groups to assist and provide guidance in the systematic development of technology-based learning/instructional materials.

  • Search for external funding related to technology initiatives

  • Design, develop and produce technology-delivered instructional materials in collaboration with CETL’s Instructional Design Specialist, including on-line materials

  • Maintain knowledge currency in developments in instructional technology/integrated learning systems

  • Devise methods for integrating technical tools and applications into instruction

  • Provide technical assistance and support for all CETL-housed computing equipment not already covered by IT support agreements

  • Write brief articles for IU Northwest Newsletter, providing hits, resources, updates, and announcements for CETL

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional technology, educational technology or related field.  Master’s degree preferred.

  • Advanced hands-on knowledge of MS Office products, graphics software, course management software (i.e. Web CT, Blackboard, or OnCourse CL), multi-media applications and website development tools

  • Teaching or training experience, preferably in higher education

  • Experience with PCs and Macs as well as a familiarity with their operating systems

  • Knowledge of a broad range of electronic learning technologies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer service orientation

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage project schedules and to work independently and as a team member

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and to sit for extended periods (sedentary position)

  • Experience in hardware trouble-shooting a plus but not necessary
