Folks

Last week I sent out info on fall upper level anthro courses to the whole newsletter list; I received a couple of questions from IUN anthro and sociology majors about those and other courses, so I thought I would send more info to the "majors only" list. (if you are not an IUN soc or anthro major, let me know and I will delete you from this new list -- I am not even sure how often this list will be used). If you have questions or need advising, please reply to this email.

ANTH B264/B464 Human Fossils. (Bob Mucci) This course is offered only once every 2 or three years. P: A105; it can be used by Sociology majors to fulfill the Group IIIA natural science requirement, but note that you can use only nine hours of anthropology in all of Group III total.

ANTH B368 / Psychology P390 Primate Behavior (Diane Wallander) We do not expect to offer this course again for 3 years.

SOC S441/ANTH A360/A200 History and Theory of anthropology. (Bob Mucci) To receive a BA in Sociology, students must take either this class or Soc 340 Theory in Sociology. S340 is offered every spring, but S441 is offered only every two years.

SOC S362/ ANTH E445/A200 Medical Anthro. (Christine Malcom) This course is offered occasionally, about once every two years. SOC S362 is the number students should use if they want to count it to fulfill the elective sociology course within the sociology major; note that credit can only be given for S362 twice, and that S362 does not count in Group III for any students. If you need group III credit, take it under the anthro numbers (A200 avoids the term paper).

SOC S261 Research Methods in Sociology (Marty Zusman) this course is required to get a BA or AA in all sociology tracks; it is offered every fall only. It closed last week at 25, but is being reopened tomorrow up to the room size of 30. You must take this course if you plan on taking S262 statistics in the spring.

SOC S254/ANTH A200 Qualitative Field Research (Mik Stokely) Students must take either this course or S262 statistics to receive the sociology BA; it is assumed that students in the anthro track or qualitative sociology track will take S254, but they are free to take either. S254 is offered every fall. Almost all students should take it as S254 not A200; seek advising if you are not sure.

ANTH E120/E320/ SOC S362 Indians of North America (Mik Stokely) This course is offered every semester. Students in all Sociology BA tracks, and also those in any other BA programs, can use the E320 or E120 numbers (only) to fulfill the Group IV Culture Studies requirement; one can do this in addition to the 3 anthro courses in Group III. see note above about the S362 number.

ANTH E108/E300/ SOC 362 Hollywood Indians (Mik Stokely) This course is not expected to be offered again for several years. Students in all Sociology BA tracks can use the E300 number (only) to fulfill the Group IV Culture Studies requirement; one can do this in addition to the 3 anthro courses in Group III. see note above about the S362 number.

SOC S230 Society and the Individual (social psychology) (Jack Bloom) This course is offered every semester and usually in summer, but with different instructors. It is required for all Sociology BA students in all tracks.

SOC S215 Social Change (Barry Johnston) This course is offered every semester and usually in summer, but with different instructors. It is required for all Sociology BA students in all tracks.
