Second Annual Student & Faculty Conference

CALL FOR PAPERS—EXTENDED DEADLINE

On November 17-18, 2005, the College of Arts and Sciences will be hosting its

second annual scholarly research conference showcasing research and creative

activity by students and alumni, emeritus, and full-time and part-time faculty.

 Students and faculty are invited to submit an abstract of up to 250 words on a

topic of their choice for papers, posters, or artistic presentations.

Pre-organized panels will be considered. Faculty may nominate students to

present outstanding scholarship/creative work only after reaching agreement with

the student. Student papers must be overseen by a faculty liaison who will

provide appropriate mentoring. Formal presentations may not exceed 15-20 minutes.

Abstracts should contain the following information:

full name and title of the presenter,

title of presentation,

department affiliation,

name of faculty sponsor if applicable,

phone number,

email address, equipment or supply requests,

agreement to read paper in 15 to 20 minutes,

and a definitive abstract of between 200 and 250 words.

The EXTENDED deadline for submitting abstracts is AUGUST 19TH . Please submit

abstracts to Dr. Robin Hass Birky, Department of English, Hawthorn 429 or to

rohass@iun.edu.

3B) Explorations in the Cultural History of AIDS

AIDS in Culture is an annual conference organized by Enkidu Magazine in Mexico

City in cooperation with CENSIDA (the national Mexican AIDS-organization),

CONAPRED (the national Mexican Anti-Discrimination Council) and ADETEA (the

Association of Anthropology Students at the Autonomous University of the State

of Mexico in Toluca). In 2005 the conference will be held in Puerto Vallarta on

the Mexican Pacific Coast, December 9-12. AIDS in Culture seeks to examine

issues relating to AIDS in culture across a wide range of perspectives. The

conference aims to promote innovative multidisciplinary and multicultural

exchange and dialogue and bring together people working in all relevant

evaluate the safety of a promising new vaccine designed to prevent HIV

infection. You CANNOT catch HIV from this vaccine.

Participation involves a detailed health screening with laboratory work-up to

determine eligibility for study. If you qualify, you will receive three

vaccinations over a six-month period. You will be seen approximately weekly for

the first two months of the study; there are 15 scheduled visits during the 60
