Three quick notes about fall IUN registration:

1) Bob Mucci's fall Language and Culture/Sociolinguistics course has been
closed to student registration almost all summer due to a glitch in the new
registration computer system.  It has now been reopened and students can finally
register for it:
Description: L200/L300 LANGUAGE AND CULTURE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE (Also
cross-listed as Sociology S431 Sociolinguistics) An introduction to the
anthropological study of language in its cultural context. Topics covered
include: the origin and evolution of language; the biological bases of language;
language in other animals; the origins of writing and its effects on spoken
language; sociolinguistics and gender; correlates of language; the relationship
between language and mind; paralanguage, proxemics, kinesics; descriptive and
structural linguistics; discourse analysis and deconstructionism; prescriptive
and descriptive grammars; glottochronology and language change; and the
evolution of linguistic study. The course is based not on a textbook but on
Steven Pinker's NY Times best seller The Language Instinct, and other selected

2) On-line registration has been extended: You may continue to register for Fall
2004 through Tuesday, August 31 @ 6P from anywhere in the world on the internet
through OneStart. Access OneStart by going to the IUN homepage:
http://www.iun.edu & clicking on OneStart at the top of the page. Registration
is available from 7A-10:30P M-F, 7A-5P S, 10A-5P Sundays.
There will be no registration activity in the registrar's area on Monday,
Tuesday & Friday, the 23rd, 24th & 27th. If you choose to come to campus on
those days go to the Student Technology Center in Marram Hall 103 for internet
access.
On Wednesday & Thursday, the 25th & 26th, there will be walk-in registration in
HH108 from 10A-6P according to the first letter of you last name as follows:

Bob Mucci is available for advising via email at any time, and in Lindenwood 231
from 10 to 6 pm Wed and Thurs Aug 25 and 26 - hey that is my birthday, and Mik
Stokely's too.

3) Warning:  If a student does not withdraw by 5:00 p.m. on September 3, 2004,
he/she will be financially responsible for fall semester fees. There will be no
wash out of classes for the fall semester.  That means if you do not attend, you
still have to pay!
